The innovative measures allowing Expo 2020 Dubai to qualify as “Sensory Accessible Event” include four Quiet Rooms, for visitors experiencing sensory overload or anxiety. Another crucial factor in obtaining the certification is the option to download “social stories” with sensory information on the broad range of visitor experiences from the www.expo2020dubai.com website, plus the 'Sunflower Lanyard' initiative, for those wishing to discreetly signal that they have a hidden disability.
The PODium app, to be presented soon, will help people with disabilities before and during their visit thanks to features such as 3D visual mapping, audio navigation and tactile feedback. Other features include 3D tactile models of Expo’s architecture, scannable codes for self-guided experiences narrated through sign language, audio description and written captions, hearing induction loops and service dog relief areas.
Access for people with disabilities will be free of charge, while companions will receive a 50% discount.
