“It will be the most accurate and sophisticated replica of David, Michelangelo’s masterpiece, and one of the main attractions at the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai”.
‘Smart City, Voci e Luoghi dell’Innovazione’, a very popular programme broadcast in prime time on Radio24, dedicated a special to the project to bring a digital twin of the statue on display at the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence to the upcoming Universal Expo.
Speaking into the microphones of radio show host Maurizio Melis, Grazia Tucci, professor of Geomatics at the University of Florence and coordinator of the project to digitize and reproduce David, explained in great detail the different phases of a complex operation requiring the use of spearheading technologies and multidisciplinary capabilities.
“The most delicate phase, namely the digitization of the masterpiece through the acquisition of the digital representation of the statue in the form of an extremely dense point cloud, has recently terminated and now we are approaching the moment when it will be reproduced by means of a 3D printing technology,” reported the ‘Smart City’ special.
