The works of the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai have reached a first important goal. The structure is now complete reaching up to a height of 27 metres thanks to the installation of 165 vertical pillars and the covering “waves”: 30 roll formed steel beams, which represent a very high level of engineering complexity and with a length of over 70 metres each, have been put in place and are now ready to support the largest tricolour flag ever made.

The next step will be to put in place the three upside-down hulls that will be converted into the pavilion’s roofscape. Then the subsequent finishing operations will be carried out.

Technological equipment and internal partitions are being installed on the ground floor, which will host reception, services and catering areas, as well as institutional events and meeting halls.
The façade of the Pavilion, which will be entirely made of over 60 kilometres of nautical ropes using 100% recycled plastic, is being produced in Italy and the first materials have been delivered in Dubai to be installed in the next few months to complete the external shell of the structure.
The setting up of furnishing, which involves some of the best Italian companies, was started at the beginning of 2021. All of the materials that will be used in the Pavilion, many of which were recycled to start with, will be recycled at end of the Universal Expo.
