Cross-cultural and inter-faith dialogue will be at the core of many events during the Dubai Expo, including a forum to be held at the Italy Pavilion in collaboration with our partners and with the involvement of leading figures from all over the world.
This and other initiatives are part of a process that sees the world’s main religions intensifying their efforts for a constructive dialogue aimed at promoting peace among nations. A decisive step was taken in the United Arab Emirates, which will host the Expo, with the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, Ahmed al-Tayyeb, on 4th February 2019 in Abu Dhabi.

Over the next 16 months, the build-up to the Universal Exhibition will be marked by numerous occasions for reflecting on this issue.
A first major occasion will be the day of inter-faith prayer on 14th May to help humanity overcome the coronavirus pandemic. The initiative is promoted by the Higher Committee for Human Fraternity, which was established after the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity and is made up of representatives of various religions and international institutions.
“The serious pandemic is an opportunity to encourage a common effort between religious people, but also scientists, politicians and members of the laity from around the globe. The call for a day of universal prayer and fasting was immediately welcomed by the Pope, the Grand Imam, the Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I, the Rabbi of Washington, Bruce Lustig, and many other members of various religions, explained the Stefano Girotti Zirotti a senior reporter from the Vatican Service of Italian state television network RAI in a contribution sent to the Commissioner General’s Office for Italy’s participation in Expo Dubai.
