This is yet another instance of Covid-19-pandemic fallout, but the Commissioner General for Italy's participation Paolo Glisenti asks us to see the postponement in a positive light: “It would have been a failure given the circumstances. But now Expo is well positioned to be the biggest global event for the year 2021 and a platform for revitalising international relations - one issue which, after the pandemic outbreak, has become of paramount importance in political, diplomatic, scientific and social terms.”
An opportunity to start over
This no pro-forma optimism. The Commissioner reminds us that 190 countries will be present at Dubai with 25 million visitors from all over the world and that for Italy it will be a huge platform allowing it to showcase everything it does best, from universities to enterprise and from natural beauty to artistic and cultural treasures.
