Innovation and sustainability will be the key themes of Expo 2020 Dubai. Their application in the aerospace industry is central to Leonardo’s attendance in the Italy Pavilion for the six-month Universal Exhibition period, allowing visitors to become more familiar with these themes while nurturing relationships between businesses to help boost Italy’s competitiveness in this region and on a global scale.
“I am pleased that Leonardo has decided to work with Italy at Expo 2020 Dubai,” General Commissioner Paolo Glisenti stated during the press conference held to present Leonardo’s sponsorship of the Italy Pavilion alongside Dubai Airshow 2019. “The effects of Aerospace and Space Economy, in which Leonardo enjoys a leading role and a competitive position on an international level, form an integral part of our project, which is based on sustainability, wellness and safety for everyone.”
Chief Executive Officer Alessandro Profumo emphasised how Leonardo taking part in Expo 2020 Dubai helps to promote Italy’s expertise, “which is itself a unique blend of creativity and technology.”
He added, “The attitude towards transversal skills has always been one of our distinguishing features, and one that theoretically links us to Leonardo da Vinci, the adaptable Renaissance genius who inspired our choice of name.”
In Dubai, Leonardo will introduce technologies and products concerning new frontiers of the aeronautics industry: from its innovative aircraft with or without pilots to its integrated aeronautics systems with a special focus on the revolutionary AW609 convertiplane designed and built entirely by the company.
Leonardo’s participation will also reflect its expertise in space exploration and in ground and water monitoring systems. This includes the atomic clock that marks time through the resonance frequency of an atom. Plus, there is also the drill from the ExoMars2020 mission, which will be searching for signs of life on the Red Planet.
