The “One year to go” ceremony at Matera marked, for Italy, the start of the countdown to Expo 2020 in Dubai, the first to take place in an Arab nation, 50 years after the Middle Eastern country was founded. In attendance, alongside the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Highness Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, were Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi Di Maio and Italian Minister of Education Lorenzo Fioramonti.
“Expo 2020 Dubai will be a theatre for all to create, build, listen and learn,” Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan stated. “There is just one year left for the United Arab Emirates to transform into a large melting pot welcoming the entire world.”
In his speech the Emirati Minister praised the plans Italy will be bringing to Dubai. “It is a great responsibility for us to inherit the legacy of Milan 2015. We will strive, with Italy’s support, to replicate its success,” the Minister stressed as he took to the stage following a musical and dance extravaganza from his own country, offering a taste of the atmosphere awaiting Expo guests and visitors.
