The Italian Commissioner’s office for Expo 2020 in Dubai and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) shall unite to bring to the Universal Exposition the principles, values and potential of the world’s favourite sport.
The Memorandum of Understanding, signed at FIGC headquarters by Federation President Gabriele Gravina and by Italian Commissioner for Expo Paolo Glisenti, shall involve the planning of activities, events and initiatives in the preparation phase and during Expo itself. The focus will be on football as a major factor in the promotion of Italy abroad with positive impacts on the commercial, cultural and tourist sectors.
“The Football Federation will be at Expo 2020 with all its multifaceted dynamism; our world has special strengths ranging from our capacity to unite to the values and economic aspects of our work,” said Gravina. “We will bring our educational projects with schools, our training courses, venue proposals, women’s football and initiatives to develop the youth sectors, but above all – our vision of the future.”
“In Dubai we will address an audience of young people who come from new worlds such as North Africa and Southeast Asia – young people who are hungry for multidisciplinary training opportunities,” said Glisenti. “Italian football is a model appreciated not only in terms of competition; it is also able to embracing a range of competences, from health care to athletics, to materials used and so on.”
In line with World Health Organization guidelines, the protocol also refers to the need for a global strategy on diet and physical activity that involves the public and private institutions and can help promote healthy life styles.
