At Expo Dubai with Trieste European Capital of Science 2020

“Our aim”, commented the Commissioner during the presentation of the Euro Science Open Forum 2020, held at the (Italian) Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, “is to strengthen Italy’s scientific, cultural and economic role in the Mediterranean area, and the collaboration with Trieste European Capital of Science will allow for extending the scientific community’s involvement to Central and Eastern Europe in the framework of European cooperation and integration”.

Glisenti recalled that the Commissioner’s Office, in order to promote the broadest and most active participation by national and international research communities, also through initiatives and events preceding the opening of the Dubai Expo in October 2020, signed in the recent months with CNR (Italian National Research Council) a memorandum of understanding involving numerous projects focusing on scientific research and technological development in the following sectors: life sciences and health, sustainability, protection and promotion of the cultural heritage and the digital transition of manufacturing sectors (Industry 4.0).

“I believe”, concluded Glisenti, “that the scientific community’s involvement in the countries adhering to ESOF 2020, starting from the Central and Eastern European countries, can be a crucial factor to bring to Expo 2020 Dubai the results and progress of the BlueMed research and innovation initiative for blue growth and jobs in the Mediterranean area – a strategic project for the sustainable development of the entire area which also encompasses the Balkan countries”.
