Handing down and introducing the world to the wealth of knowledge and skills possessed by the “scaligeri” masters, from opera and dance traditions to creative and manual ability: this is the commitment made by the Teatro alla Scala Academy Foundation and the General Commissioner’s Office to make EXPO 2020 Dubai (and the run-up to the event) an opportunity to train and nurture young talent involved with the school of ballet, the “La Scala cadets” school, the course for set designers and makers and the new training courses spanning the 4 departments of Music, Dance, Stagecraft and Management.
The Academy, which is involved in research and cultural cooperation projects with the aim of imparting its educational and organisational methods to companies operating within the sector in other countries, will also open its courses to Middle-Eastern students for EXPO 2020, making it an opportunity to actively take part in the production of this major event taking place in the United Arab Emirates.
The memorandum of intent signed by the Foundation and the General Commissioner’s Office reinforces the blueprint for Italian participation in EXPO 2020, which is focussing on creativity as a skill, multi-disciplinary environments, artistic, technical and managerial tradition and the “learning by doing” method, national cultural and artistic heritage, social quality, links with local areas and overall quality of life. Over a period of several years the Academy will work towards all the shared objectives to be achieved in the run-up to the Universal Exhibition and during the six-month period in which the event will be live. Several initiatives will also be based around Expo 2020 (such as artistic and cultural events, projects and training programs to be represented at Expo 2020), with the endorsement of previous students, experts, Italian Ambassadors, cultural institutions and honorary international members also featuring.
