The initiative, organised by SIOI – Società Italiana per l’Organizzazione Internazionale (The Italian Society for International Organization) in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Italy and with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR), the European Commission Representative Office in Italy and the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), is aimed at bringing non-formal learning and sporting values together.
The event, in which 200 of the brightest young individuals from over twenty countries across the globe took part, concluded on 4th May in the International Conference Hall at the Headquarters of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with a panel of experts rewarding the most innovative and tangible proposals submitted.
The opening ceremony was attended by Franco Frattini, SIOI President; Giovanni Malagò, CONI President; Kelly Degnan, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Rome; Sabrina Bono, MIUR Chief of Staff; Beatrice Covassi, Head of European Commission Representation in Italy; Luigi Maria Vignali, Director General for Italian Citizens Abroad and Migration Policies at MAECI (Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation); Daniela Bas, Director of the Social Policy and Development Division at the United Nations (UNDESA) in New York; Alfio Giomi, President of the Italian Athletics Federation; and Andrea Cisternino, President of the #UnitiperLoro Commitee.
Paolo Glisenti, Commissioner General for the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, also took part as a speaker.
President Frattini expressed his satisfaction at the success of the event, which not only gave rise to alliance-making skills through the meeting of large institutions, high-level speakers and talented young individuals, but also fostered the ability to tackle the challenges of today’s international community through proposals for constructive and inclusive solutions.
The event received high praise from all those who took part in the event, either as speakers, judging panel members, facilitators or participants, and even from those who simply heard about it from people who had attended.
